Green Giveaway Contest!

In line with the Christmas season, the staff at All Modern is feeling pretty generous and is giving away a $75 item (your pick) from their eco-product line. Their site features green items ranging from accessories and lighting to furniture and fireplaces, and of course, it’s all stylishly modern. Check out the AllModern.com website; you might be surprised that some of the famous classic furniture pieces have green attributes, or discover a new item which may become your classic piece… either way, it’s green and we love it!
To enter the contest, leave us a comment below with the name & location of your favorite green building, and why you like it. The contest runs from 11/20 to 11/27, and ends at midnight CST. Good luck and happy shopping!

Well, looks like I’ll be the first to enter here…
Not necessarily my favorite green building, but an interesting one that I’ve run across recently is the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation’s Synagogue in Evanston Illinois. The main reason I like it is because its one of the very few LEED Platinum buildings out there that you don’t look at it and say “well, they did this for that point, and this for that point…” The design approach seems fairly integrated and not just a bunch of point accruing elements tacked on.

ooh, I love the Inhabit Ailanthus Stretched Wall Art in Chocolate SKU #: INH1110, so pretty!
Now to answer your question: I like the University of Maine at Farmington green buildings. Located on the Farmington, ME campus they meet LEED standards and also provide a great example of how you can go green and not give up creature comforts. Students are shown that we can live in a green society and hopefully some of that knowledge will be used when they design their own homes or perhaps they can make a difference somewhere else, such as work. If you want to read about these buildings, you can find the link here: http://www.umf.maine.edu/inside/media.php?id=3441

My favorite green building is Cherapa Place in Sioux Falls, SD. Both the interior and exterior are beautiful and it is in a location that provides gorgeous views of the river. This building is a great example of how functionality and beauty can co-exist with a green building.
